As you all know I am a big fan of Google Earth. I see it as the future of the Search Engine. Eventually all things will be searched with immediate Geo-Location of an item, shipping points, delivery schedules, immediate knowledge of where your ordered package actually is, etc. It is all only a matter of time for all of the convergence. It will take at most 10 years I’d guess… Continuing in this tradition of Google Earth innovations is the new “WikiSailing”. This provides tours in Google Earth with a plane or a sailboat… this is really wicked cool and will only get better over time.

Google Earth for the iPhone!!!

New App for the iPhone was released about a week ago… GOOGLE EARTH! Check it out here! I am still personally debating the need for an iPhone, as I hardly ever travel and work on the computer about 48 hours per day anyway… Seriously considering the iPod Touch though, and then just grabbing WiFi where I might be which is hardly ever… I’ll make a decision on the iPhone soon though… Anyways, here is official word from Google on the Google Earth for iPhone app.

The future of Computing is NOW HERE! A picture is worth 1000 words… a video is worth 1000^2 ??!! So a “touchable” Google Earth hologram is worth what??? 1000^1000 ?! This is rather mind blowing. I want one!!!

Am hearing from some clients that the Google Earth plugin is NOT, I repeat NOT working with Firefox 3 on Windows… doesn’t work at all for all of us on Macs, but that is another issue… So if you LOVE LOVE LOVE the GE plugin, then I’d wait a few weeks for Google to get this working properly.

So is signage suddenly important again?! Make sure your store sign has your web address!!! If it gets picked up with GOOGLE streetview, then you’ll have a new way of getting visitors to your site. 37 new cities are on the list for street view. The latest shows that Google Earth’s 3D mapping of the world continues. The latest comes straight fro m the horse’s mouth, so to speak… right from the Google Earth blog. My prediction, and I have said this before is that in 10 years, google.com won’t be used any more… instead we’ll be using Google Earth… perhaps it will be holographic or something… but this is my prediction… check my timestamp! ;-D

Okay, this is a theory I am playing around with, but it sure makes sense. It seems that many different pieces from Google Labs (pre-Beta) can be used to SEO different pieces of your site. I used a KML file recently on a clients website to become visible on the front page… A KML file is the layer file you can save out of Google Earth… very effective if embedded in a website… I am starting to use more and more of Google TOYS to determine if they make a difference in rankings… but it sure makes sense that it would!
