Watch this if you USE GMAIL! I use Apple Mail and love my Smart Folders and Flags… hmmm I am wondering if this will integrate into Apple Mail… I will need to look and report back if I see a way to pull the information across!

WOW! Is all I could say upon reading this. Be careful VERY CAREFUL what you share with Google! This really makes me re-think the whole “recommend GMAIL to everyone because it is cool and has a great Spam filter” idea I’ve had going for the last few years.

Gmail Refresh POP accounts Lab

Turn on “Refresh POP accounts” from the Labs tab under Settings, and the refresh link at the top of your inbox will not only update your inbox with your new Gmail messages, it will also fetch messages from any other accounts which you have set up.

I’ve seen this someplace before…. hmmmm… I think it is in the Apple Address Book! Is Google just cherry picking ideas right from Apple? I think so. But it is cool and helpful.

Mark unread from here in GMail

I have already enabled this. It is really cool when there is a really long thread in your email and you get about half way down and then the phone rings… happens to me all of the time! With this, I can mark that I have read to this point so I can open it later and start where I left off! LOVE IT!

There’s a new feature in Gmail Labs that will help with this. When you enable Mark Unread From Here from the Labs tab under Settings, you'll see a new “Mark unread from here” option in the drop down menu found in the upper right-hand corner of messages.

As Chevy Chase once said… “this is crazy… this is crazy…” before he hopped into a pool with Christie Brinkley in Vacation… impossible things only sound crazy… kind of like this story… but I have done similar things to this but in a much smaller scale as I only work with small businesses… but switching over 40 email accounts to google apps at once sounds a little scary but simply works beautifully if you dot all of your i’s and cross all of your t’s correctly with a checklist before hand… I highly recommend all of my clients get on the Google Apps for their domain email system. You will be happy you did!

As we delved deeper into our migration planning and learned from our early adopters, we realized that we would be better off using a big bang approach. One major reason is that getting everyone onto a single system faster reduces the largest pain of having co-existence of two systems for any amount of time.

Gmail super duper authentication

Straight from Google’s mouth so to speak. If you use Gmail, then this will greatly reduce any chance of Paypal or eBay spammers from reaching your inbox! I recommend this being enabled! More domains like this will be enabled in the future (like Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, etc.) so enabled this today! I did notice a bug where this didn’t enable in Safari for Mac, but it worked right away on Firefox! -Tom

We’re always looking for new ways to protect Gmail inboxes from spam and phishing. Last year, we started taking extra steps to protect you from fake eBay and PayPal emails, requiring that any email claiming to come from one of eBay’s or PayPal’s domains actually comes from them. We do that by looking at the “From” header, and when it says “ebay.com” for example, it means it really did come from ebay.com. Anything else is rejected; it won’t even appear in your spam folder because Gmail won’t accept it.

Now, unless you are a regular reader of this blog with a photographic memory, you may not be aware of this extra protection. So, we thought we’d add a little something to remind you. Turn on “Authentication icon for verified senders” from the Labs tab under Settings, and you’ll see a key icon next to verified emails that are super-trustworthy.

“Super-trustworthy” is a technical term I just invented that means: (1) the sender, usually a financial institution, is a target of phishers, (2) all of the sender’s email is authenticated with DKIM, and (3) Gmail rejects any fake messages that claim to come from this sender, but actually don’t.

It’s a bit of work for senders to make their email super-trustworthy, which is why this feature is limited to just eBay and PayPal right now. We hope to add more senders in the future, and when we do, you’ll know because you’ll see the super-trustworthy key icon magically appear by those senders too. Give it a whirl and let us know what you think.

GMAIL VIDEO HAS ARRIVED!!!

WOW is all I can say…this is THE future of the internet coming right NOW folks… Video right from within your GMAIL account… AND I have confirmed this works within Google Apps for Your Domain Gmail account as well as I have several. No idea how this works on a PC but on the Mac it is rather seamless. Can’t wait for the API to come out for this so we can then have Gmail VIDEO chats from right within my website to clients… time to start brushing my hair everyday and wearing better looking clothes! Just kidding… here is a screenshot of it in action…

I chose to pop out the window to its own window. There is even an option to make it full screen. Overall, this feels tighter and faster than Skype so far. Skype is still kinda buggy as I still get odd dropped dropped account connections occasionally. Clients will email me a question cause they think I am not online!
